Recent Projects & Impact
Over the past year, the University of Miami Climate Resilience Institute has advanced a growing portfolio of projects, partnerships, and convenings that strengthen resilience across South Florida and beyond. Highlights below reflect our role as a catalyst for applied resilience work.
Resilience 365 Conference
In March 2025, the Climate Resilience Institute hosted the inaugural Resilience 365 Conference, convening more than 300 participants from academia, government, philanthropy, and the private sector.
The conference fostered high-impact conversations on climate risk, adaptation, and resilience finance, helping establish CRI as a leading convener for resilience work in South Florida and beyond.
The second Resilience 365 Conference is planned for March 16–18, 2026. We hope to see you there!
Relaunch of the Center for Urban & Community Design
In partnership with the University of Miami School of Architecture, CRI supported the relaunch of the Center for Urban & Community Design (CUCD) with the hiring of Tom Klein as its new director.
CUCD is building on its legacy to support community-centered resilience through locally informed design across the built and natural environment. The CRI is excited to collaborate with CUCD as a key institutional partner advancing applied resilience solutions.
Senior Resilience Fellows Program
Throughout 2025, CRI hosted its first cohort of Senior Resilience Fellows, welcoming two nationally recognized resilience leaders:
- Victoria Salinas, former Deputy Administrator for Resilience at FEMA
- Jainey Bavishi, former Deputy Administrator at NOAA.
The Fellows program strengthens CRI’s engagement with policy-relevant resilience practice while fostering mentorship, dialogue, and collaboration across sectors.
